Want to know what were the names of the seven dwarfs of Snow White? If so, then read on to find out not only their names, but also some more insights about them and the story.
Though in the original Snow White story the dwarfs were not named, they were created when Walt Disney made the cartoon version of the story named Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was an animated movie based on the fairy tale Snow White by the Grimm brothers.
Though the film in every way was similar to the original Snow White story, there were a few differences, like in the movie the seven dwarfs had names, while they were not named in the fairy tale.
In the fairy tale, Snow White accepts three gifts from the witch who wanted to kill her (a girdle, a poisoned comb, and the apple) but was saved by the first two gifts by the dwarfs, but in the movie she only accepted the poisonous apple.
Likewise in the fairy tale Snow White didn't come alive by the prince's kiss which is shown in the movie, rather the prince takes the coffin carrying her body from the dwarfs and during the journey to his castle, the piece of poisoned apple in Snow White's throat dislodges and she comes alive.
Also in the fairy tale, the stepmother attends the wedding of Snow White and the prince, and is forced to wear hot iron shoes till death to keep her from harming Snow white.
In the movie, it has been shown that the stepmother is chased by the seven dwarfs up to a mountain. She is the one who gives Snow White the poisoned apple. While fighting the dwarfs, a lightening strikes the mountain edge and she falls to her death.
Though we all know a lot about the Snow White and her wicked stepmother, what most us are not very aware of are the adorable seven dwarfs, in terms of their names and personality characteristics.

Names and Personality Traits of the Seven Dwarfs

Dopey is the youngest, sweetest and silliest of all the seven dwarfs. He is beardless and can be distinguished from other dwarfs by his green tunic, purple hat, and big ears. He is a loose limbed dwarf who never speaks a word but is a genius at fun and games.

Grumpy is the most ill-tempered and ill-humored of all dwarfs. He has a long white beard and wears a red tunic and brown hat. Though he is tough, craggy and resistant to anything, he is also extremely devoted to Snow White.

Doc is the only dwarf who wears glasses. He has long white hair and beard, and like Grumpy, he also wears a red tunic and brown hat. Considered as the leader, whenever there is a decision to make, Doc is the one to make it.

Happy is the most rotund of the dwarfs, and has a short beard and long white hair. The most cheerful of all, he is always found smiling and wearing a brown top and orange colored headpiece.

Bashful is the most shy of all dwarfs, and is often seen in his classic pose of shyness, i.e. hands clasped behind back, shoulders slightly raised and eyes upturned. He has a short beard and wears a brownish two-tone tunic and a yellow cap.

Often seen stifling a sneeze by keeping a finger underneath his nose, Sneezy is the dwarf with short beard and a red nose. He wears a brown jacket and orange headpiece.

As the name says, Sleepy is the most sleepy of all the dwarfs, having a forever sleepy look and heavily lidded expression on his face. Often confused between Bashful and Sneezy, Sleepy has a long beard and wears a green top and blue hat.
