The Forever War Non Fiction Book— A Modern-Day Classic

A modern-day classic book centered around Filkins’ observations from his time in Afghanistan, this book captures the attention of the reader right away.  On the New York Times Book Review List in 2008, it has garnished a wide range of recognition.  The Forever War was considered one of the best books of that year. Its position was solidified on the list when it was awarded the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award. The Forever War’s popularity was not just limited to the year 2008 though; in 2009 it won the Colby Award. The Colby Award recognizes a first work that made a meaningful contribution to the public’s understanding of international affairs.

An Action-Packed Book

A great read, The Forever War is a book for a wide range of people. Some people will love this book because they enjoy history. Others will enjoy it for the action and for the capturing the war in words.  Readers are able to visualize the same things that Filkins and the soldiers saw and experienced.

Finally, military personalities and people who love to learn about the military will enjoy The Forever War. Filkins gives a great understanding of the current battlefields.

A Look Inside The Forever War Non Fiction Book

Filkins’ account takes the reader through desert land, mountains, and streets of destruction. Children in minefields, skies full of B-52s, and even a night among the rubble of Ground Zero in New York.

The author takes readers into the homes of suicide bombers, introduces them to Iraqi insurgents, and tells the story of a young soldier from Georgia. Bombs explode, bullets whiz past, mothers cry, soldiers fight, and people die. And it’s all brought to life in The Forever War, one word at a time.

Like no other book has done before, The Forever War brings a real understanding of the modern-day battlefield and what the people—soldiers, residents, terrorists, and all those in-between—experienced.  Likewise, it allows us a visceral understanding of today’s battlefields and the experiences of the people on the ground, warriors and innocents, alike.

While this book has won many awards by being able to bring the battles of the war after 9/11  to people across the world, it is deeper than that. The Forever War helps give people a better understanding of what it means to be at war with another country. Not just the war on terrorism, but the nature of war as a whole.

The next time you’re considering what to read, don’t pass over the non-fiction section. Pick up The Forever War nonfiction book to enjoy real-life action-packed stories that bring you right into the midst of war.
