Writing a retirement letter is not difficult if you are aware of the format. Here are three samples for your reference, which will help you to draft one for yourself.
Writing a retirement letter is actually quite simple, as you do not have to write a lengthy one and go on explaining each and everything. A few things that need to be kept in mind are accuracy and simplicity.
Before we get to the actual samples, let us first take a look at the points which should be included in the retirement letter.
- Your complete name and employee code number, if any.
- Date of joining and date of retirement.
- Years of service.
- Include the list of assets you returned, ask for the receipt.
- Any policies or plans of the company that you would wish to continue.
- Express gratitude towards the service of the company and the other employees
This is the general idea of how the retirement letter should be constructed. You need to sit back and make a note of what all needs to be included in your letter, besides these, since the situation for everyone might be a little different.
The following are three samples, the first one dealing with a voluntary retirement, the second that can be given by the company to the employee, and the third for a normal retirement procedure.
Sample for Voluntary Retirement
Date Name Title Organization Address City, State, Zip Code Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name: I, ABC, in accordance with what I believe to be a spiritual calling, do hereby announce my retirement as Executive Director of this Company. This will be effective from April 12, 2010. I came to this decision after a lot of thinking, and came to the conclusion that “Retiring too late means you don’t get another chance.” I have been with this organization for almost twenty years and have enjoyed every moment of it. Since I began in 1990, we have created one of the most successful and innovative financial organizations. After much thought and deliberation I have come to this decision. After repeated discussions about this with my family, and considering my personal goals and my continuing journey as an individual, I believe that I have made the right decision and at the right time. I have given this company my best over the years and I am proud of our accomplishments. All the employees are very co-operating and I hope the homely atmosphere remains the same even after my departure. Though it is a time for me to retire, it is an opportune time for someone else to lead this organization to greater heights, as it is time for me to take myself to greater heights as an individual. I want to emphasize that I will forever be grateful to this organization for having given me one of the greatest opportunity of my life, to be a part of the accomplishments and the great times we have had over the years. If I ever need a retirement job, I would hope to be able to come this organization again. Sincerely, XYZ Executive Director |
